NEW INDEPENDENT STUDY HIGH SCHOOL
On April 13, 2021, the Governing Board of the Central Union High School District authorized the creation of a new school to address the needs of CUHSD students through an independent study platform. Work began the next day requesting authorization from the California Department of Education. Mt. Signal Virtual Academy is the culmination of that effort.
Opening our doors in August of 2021, we quickly established ourselves as a true Alternative School of Choice for the Central Union High School District, rapidly expanding beyond our projected opening goal of 60 students, and soon supporting the learning needs of more than 185 students. As our enrollment grew we were able to build a strong support team of educators and counselors to guide our students.
Utilizing both the Edgenuity and the Acellus learning platforms, we provide learning opportunities to all student populations, with ELD and SPED support built into our school program.
In the Spring of 2022, the decision was made to relocate our school from our original home on the site of the Central Union Adult School, and build a permanent home on the CUHS campus along Holt Ave. On Feb. 14, 2023 Mt. Signal Virtual Academy opened our doors at the new site.

In January of 2022 the Mt. Signal Virtual Academy was awarded our Initial Accredition finding by the Western Associaion of Schools and Colleges.
Valid through June of 2025, the accreditation award shows our school meets high standards for operating a quality program. WASC accreditation is an ongoing cycle, including an initial self-study process, the creation of a schoolwide plan and hosting evaluation visits.
